Hello dear. It's me...I mean you.
Anyway, it's 5 years in the future. You're 20 years old now. I just wanted to give you some advice about where your life is going.
Be yourself. Out of all the advice I'll give you, this is the most important. I know you feel pressured to always be something you're not. You try so hard to be skinnier, prettier, funnier. I'm here to tell you that you are perfect just the way you are (cue Bruno Mars). Even at 20, I still feel that pressure, but for the most part I am happy with who I am and who I've become.
Don't stress out about making friends. You are going to get to college and meet some truly amazing people. You may think it's your fault now, but it's not. Believe me. Like I said, just be yourself, and you'll make friends. Don't you worry.
On the subject of college, it's awesome! And not just in a crazy teen movie kind of way. You're gonna love it here. It gives you a chance to be more independent and work hard to become the awesome adult you're gonna be some day. You're not an education major like you thought you would be. No, you're actually studying to become a journalist. But that is even better than you imagined it would be.
Finally, I just want to let you know, everything is going to be okay. As much as you may think the opposite some times, it really is.
And oh, that thing they say about high school being the best four years of your life...
It isn't true.
So hang it there, babe, and keep your head held high. You're gonna do some awesome things.
Much love,
Katelyn, age 20

Hey! I found your blog over at Creating Community on Chasing Big Dreams!
ReplyDeleteCome on over to my blog. I'm excited to read more from you! :)
I love this letter! High school was definitely not the best four years of my life. My college years are probably my favorite so far, but I'm also loving the post-college ones. A lot of this letter applies well to all of these seasons!
