Weekend Recap

I don't usually do weekend recaps, but hey, there's a first time for everything right? Plus, I actually feel like my weekend is worth sharing this time, because I actually did something with my life for once!

Friday
For this girl, weekends start on Friday, because I don't have any classes. I do, have to work at my internship at my school's tv and radio station. We had a booth at a children's festival at a mall in a nearby town. At this booth, we had a "meet and greet" with the Cat in the Hat. We had someone to play the Cat on Saturday for the festival, but I got stuck with the lovely task on Friday when we went to a daycare for a visit...

Yes, that is indeed me in that costume. I have always been frightened by people in character costumes, and now I can say I've been one. I guess you have to face your fears in some way...

Saturday
This day was a bit more pleasant, because I didn't have to be in the Cat suit. The guy that did play the Cat in the Hat was his high school's mascot for 4 years, so he had a little bit more experience than I did in that department. I just got to be his assistant, helping him in and out of the costume when he needed to take a break.

Right before I got back into town, my friend and future roommate asked if I wanted to check out Celebration at my school, which is like a big festival/carnival with food, crafts, and live music. So we went to check it out, and it was actually a nice day for it, which is unusual because it's usually crappy weather for Celebration. So we sat outside for a while and enjoyed the day....

Sunday
Today, I really got nothing accomplished, aside from going to church and getting my laundry done. I walked to Starbucks and picked up some coffee for me and my friend, who I mentioned before that is going to be my future roommate. She's an RA in the dorm, and she was on duty so she couldn't leave the building. I decided to be nice and provide her with caffeine.

I'm just ready to power through this last week of classes, and then finals week. I can't believe how fast this year has gone. I'm already almost half way done with college!

High 5 For Friday

Thank God it's Friday! This has been a really fun but really full week. And next week marks my last full week of classes for the semester. After that, all I have left to conquer is finals. Since a lot happened this week, I decided to link up with Lauren again for High Five for Friday! Plus, my camera screen cracked right before I wanted to take it to the Phillip Phillips concert, so I will be using my iPod to take pics anyway! Might as well instagram them!

1. Coffee was definitely my lifesaver this week! I had a 12 page paper to write, plus I had two late nights in a row, one for a concert and the other staying up until the library closed to finish writing my paper. Coffee has been my crutch this week!

2. I have needed to wear my rain boots all week because it has been so rainy here! Yesterday it down poured all day. Some parts of the state even flooded. Needless to say, my rain boots and umbrella were with me at all times.

3. I saw Phillip Phillips in concert on Tuesday Since I posted about this yesterday, I'm not going to go into much more detail except that he was amazing and I'm really glad I got to go!

4. Yesterday was my friend Haley's birthday, so a group of us went out to eat to celebrate. Haley was one of the first new friends I made this year, and I'm really glad to have her as a friend.

5. For my internship at my school's TV station, I dressed up as the Cat in the Hat and went to a day care to visit the little kids. This was a big thing for me, because I always hated people in character costumes as a kid, and now I am one!

Churchill and Phillip Phillips Concert

Last night I attended my 16th concert. Every year, my school has a Spring Concert. Except last year because the previous year's concert funds the show for next year, and the year before they had the genius plan of having the concert on Easter weekend when everyone goes home.

This year, though, the school decided to invite Phillip Phillips to come play. Here's the extent to which I knew Phillip Phillips when this concert was announced: I knew he won American Idol, but his season was the first I didn't watched in about 6 seasons, because I was a busy college freshman and didn't have the time to spend two or three nights a week watching TV. Honestly, the very few times I had heard him perform on the show, I didn't care for him.

However, once I started to listen to his album more, I began to fall in love, in more ways than one! First of all, I think he has a really unique voice and a laid back style that is really nice. Second, he is a fairly attractive man (minus the neck beard, ew).

Needless to say, I was pretty pumped for this concert. The doors didn't open until 7, but my friend and I decided to line up at about 5:45. There was already about 10 people in line in front of us. We had bought floor seats, which were just general admission, so we wanted to be there plenty early enough to get a good spot!

I ended up in about the 2nd row with a perfect view of the stage! Churchill opened up for Phillip Phillips, and even though I only knew one of their songs, I had a blast during their set. They had a lot of energy, and the lead singer climbed the barrier that separated us from the stage right in front of where I was, so I got a very good view of him :) My friends and I met the band at their merch table after the show. They signed the cds we bought and took a picture with us!

Us with Churchill

And Phillip Phillips's set...oh my. Words cannot even begin to describe how phenomenal it was. A lot of the time, I have these high expectations for how an artist is going to sound and perform, and they never live up to those expectations. In his case though, wow, he lived up to them and even more. He sounded so good and had a ton of energy. The guy never stopped moving!

There were some rumors swirling that he may have been high while he was performing and that he was kind of a jerk while he was here, but I'm not concerning myself with those pieces of information right now. All I really care about is that he put on one heck of a show...both him and Churchill :)

And now, for your viewing pleasure, a little snippet of Gone, Gone, Gone, my fav Phillip Phillips song of the moment :)

Kicking into Gear for the End of the Year

Today's post is just a short one...nothing flashy, nothing too exciting, more informational than anything, so stay with me here.

I'm most liking going to be missing from around these parts for approximately the next 2 1/2 weeks. That's how much time I have left here at school, and I have a lot that stills needs to be accomplished before then. So blogging may fall by the wayside a little bit in that time...

However, I do have some fun and exciting things coming up in these next few weeks that I think will make for some quality blogging, and I'm excited to share it all with you. So stayed tuned for that.

If I'm scarce around here, don't send out the search parties, I'm probably just buried underneath a pile of textbooks.

Nashville-My TV Obsession

I don't know how many of you out there watch the ABC show Nashville, but I definitely do! As a college kid, it's hard for me to sit down regularly and watch tv, but I always make time on Wednesday nights to watch this show! I got to thinking about it today, and I honestly can't believe that I am just now thinking to post about this! It only started in like, October. Oh well, better late than never, I guess!

Being a huge fan of country music, I absolutely adore this show. It's the story of an up and coming country music artist (Hayden Panetierre) , and how she is quickly approaching the level of fame of an older, more experienced artist (Connie Briton). I always sort of compare the two characters to Taylor Swift and Faith Hill, even though neither Taylor nor Faith really act like Juliette Barnes or Rayna James. Similar kind of concept though.

The storyline I just described is really just the scratching the surface. Every week, there are so many twists and turns, and they always drop a bomb right at the end to keep the audience hanging. And let's just take a minute to appreciate the music in this show. I'm not going to go into too much detail about what this show is about, mainly because 1. Some one you probably already watch it and know very well what's going on or 2. You haven't seen the show in which case you need to watch it and experience it for yourself!

I also really enjoy that this show incorporates music into it, but not in a Broadway musical kind of way. It seems very raw and real. What I like is that the songs are not the typical, main stream country music. They're almost more folksy, deeper sounding. And I love it.

This show makes me rethink how Nashville works, and if people in the country music industry really act like that.

I also love this...

There are some pretty dang good looking men on this show! Having a little bit of eye candy never hurt anyone, now did it?

Blogging for Me

Today marks 9 months of this blog being in existence. Every month that goes by still strikes me as unbelievable. I'm really blessed to be able to do this, and share my thoughts with all of you!

Lately, though, I've come to an important realization. This blog is for no one else, but me. Not to say I don't love my readers, because I do. I'm just not sure how many of them I have. For those of you that actually read what I have to say on here, I appreciate you all so much!

I've let stats really get to me though. I feel kind of defeated if very few people read one of my posts. I start thinking about what I'm doing wrong, instead of what I'm doing right. I should be thankful that even one person reads my blog. I'm writing and doing what I love, so why shouldn't I be happy with that.

I also feel like a majority of my posts have some sort of apology in them, like about how they are so boring or repetitive or whatever. I shouldn't have to apologize! If someone doesn't like what I write, they don't have to read it. I should be able to write whatever I want without thinking about how people are going to receive it and judge it.

I feel like I might be posting a lot more around here, because I'll write about whatever I feel like, without worrying if it's exactly the right words or not. And as for the numbers, they don't really matter. It's like they say in Field of Dreams, "If you blog it, they will come..."

So stay tuned, folks.

High Five for Friday

Since I actually took some pics on Instagram this week, and because I also have do so in a while, I'm linking up with Lauren over at From My Grey Desk, for High Five for Friday!

1. Last Sunday was soo beautiful outside! I broke out the flip flops for the first time this season, and my friends and I went outside and hung out on the quad for most of the afternoon. It was a very peaceful, quiet day, and I really needed it during this crazy busy time of the semester!

2. Coffee majorly got me through this week. I desperately needed the energy after some late nights in the library!

3. Tuesday marked the one week countdown until I see Phillip Phillips at my school! Since today is Friday, that means I only have 4 more days now! I am soooo excited for this show!

4. Speaking of late nights in the library...do I really need to explain this one any further? didn't think so.

5. Campus is starting to look so pretty! The grass is becoming greener and the flowers and trees are beginning to bloom! Hello spring (finally!)
